White Mountain Art

Pictured to the right is a recent acquisition of a painting by the great White Mountain artist Benjamin Champney (1817-1907). This is a warm painting with wonderful atmosphere depicting farmers gathering hay. It is impossible to know the exact location of the painting given the lack of a geographical landmark, but it certainly feels like the Conway Valley. I purchased the work last week from a private collector in Tuscon AZ. It is always wonderful to bring a piece of NH back to the Granite State.

Benjamin Champney (1817-1907), "Haying Scene, Conway Valley", ca. 1870, oil on panel, 10" x 16", signed and dated lower right
